This Friday you turn 9 months old....
It's startling how fast the time flies by. It seems like only yesterday we saw your heart beat for the first time and now, you are attempting to stand alone and you are getting a tooth!!
Your very first tooth!!
This tooth has caused a lot of sleepless nights for Mommy.
You even cry so hard sometimes it wakes Daddy!!
It's really more like a scream which, is quite sad because you rarely ever cry :(
You are the most jovial little baby girl.... So it is quite pitiful when you wake whining and chewing on your thumb at night....
(We're not truly sure if it's the tooth, nightmares, or just some infant related sleep disturbance - we are assuming tooth with the way you shove everything within reach into your mouth to gnaw on.)
It is the cutest, tiniest little tooth I have ever seen!
Your bottom left little chomper.
I must say, I honestly never thought I would find teeth so adorable but, I'm learning that to me everything about you is adorable.
Even the accompanying constant drool dangling from your lip and hands is splendidly cute.
...Although, your drool dose not seem as adorable to one of the Publix check out clerks. She actually recoiled and said,"Ugh, I hate drool," as we were checking out one day.
To which Mommy replied, "Well it's a good thing you don't seem to be cutting teeth."
She did say you were beautiful regardless of your driveling glory - so we won't hold her unsolicited comments against her.
You are using this baby to chew real food! (Well, really you're mostly using your gums still...) You love love to eat, which is great - one picky eater in the house is enough! These days you eat your perfectly organic/GMO free food and then crawl after Mommy for whatever may be in my hand....meatballs were a big hit & gluten free bread with jelly actually illicited a small whiny fit out of you this very morning! (Don't worry - Mommy made you pollitely sit and ask calmly with your signs before I gave you any....can't have you turning into an impatient spoilt brat!!)
Your newest accomplishments this past month are: going from sitting to standing in a controlled fashion, holding on with one hand while bending to pick things up with the other, opening and shutting doors/cabinets, and turning your book pages while reading.
A few weeks ago Daddy started asking you to turn the pages in your books while he reads to you. It didn't take you very long to understand.
Now, when we read stories you turn each page when we ask and when the book is done, you flip it over to start again.
Occasionally, we have to read really quickly or make up shorter stories because you are so impressed with your own skills you flip right through before we can actaully see the words on the pages.
Daddy and I are so dazzled by your precociousness. We enjoy seeing you contemplate new sights, toys, people, food....It is amazing to watch your mind work, to see your understanding blossom every day.
It is like you are becoming a real, tiny little person right before our very eyes. You are not a baby anymore....you are becoming a child....
We regularly comment on how you are hands down the smartest child alive.
(We are very aware of the fact that we are biased but, until we can actually have your IQ tested no one will be able to convince us you are not a tiny little Mensa candadite.)
On a daily basis Daddy and I are awed by you, your growth, your understanding, and your radiant little personality. Everything in the world is new and exciting to you.
I wish that everyone saw the world as you see it, as children all must see it.
New and unsullied by fear, pessimism, doubt, and anxiety.
It is a beautiful and intriguing place... as we get older we get busy or burdened and seem to forget how amazing and brilliant the things around us are.
We forget how special small interactions with our world and each other can be.
We also seem to forget about the delicacy and sanctity of life.
How can someone not be enamored with the blessings of our lives, after looking through the eyes of a child?
I hope the tenacity and joy in which you explore the intrigue and adventure of your world never go away for you! I hope we are faithful in experiencing and exploring it with you!
I pray that we are not the ones who teach you pessimism, doubt, fear, and hurt.
I hope we show you each day can be filled with joy, love, and laughter.
I pray that we teach you to never overlook the blessings of your life.
I hope we never ignore your desire to learn.
I pray we never become so busy, burdened, or worried that we forget what a blessing you are and what emmense joy you bring to us everyday.
You are the light of our lives. Every single day.
Even your tiny little teeth make us smile :)
