Buddies
It's been a while since I've posted. Things have been very busy in the Sullivan home.
I am officially half-way through my second semester of my specialty year and, firmly entrenched in the bowels of the Federal Loan Services.
Which means, I still have two and half semesters left and, school loans looming over us like a thunderstorm.
However, I just finished up my very first clinical rotation.
That is right folks. I am learning on real people now!
I'd almost forgotten what it feels like to be a student.
Constantly hyper-aware of the knowledge you do not posses and in critical need of solidifying the knowledge you do have by applying via experience.....
Terrified your every move, word, thought will be watched and graded. Even more terrifying...your patient's will actually take you serious and listen to you!!!
I will forever be grateful for my first experience. I was truly blessed with my first two preceptors. These midwives were awesome! Encouraging, supportive, and patient.
To see how much they care about their patients and, how much their patients care about them. It's truly a gift to be a part of the trust and intimacy involved in caring for women.
This semester has been wonderful so far, thanks to these women. Every day in clinic solidified for me that I am on the right path.....
(and, the school loans are worth it ;)
On the home front.... little Sullivan has been growing like a weed.
A spectacularly beautiful little weed :)
Little Natalie is 15 months old now...sigh...it really, really goes fast....
She officially has more teeth than can be counted and is talking up a storm.
Her favorite words/phrases:
"Pease" - please
"Buddies" - the name interchangeably called to any dog or, in response to any dog barking. Also, her current absolute favorite thing to say.....constantly.
"No" - no explanation necessary
"Ust at" - What's that?
"This" - A game. She points to everything insight to ask what is "this"?
"Ooh ah" - No, this is not a phrase used in admiration. This is what a monkey says. Curious George to be exact. She will pick up the remote while making monkey sounds when she wants to watch George. (And, I can do just about whatever I want for hours as long as George keeps playing).
"Uhmm" - yum, yum
"erries" - represents strawberries, blueberries, fruit in general really....
"Bye-bye" - adorable, and heart breaking
"Uh oh" - every time something is dropped
Of course, there's the boring old "mamma" and "da." And, she is currently perfecting "mi mow" and "an oo" ..... translate: Mickey Mouse and Thank you.
Blowing kisses, waving goodbye, and high fives are child's play at this point. Her new fav hand sign, "eat." She even makes little smacking noises while doing her sign and standing in front of the fridge. (If she's really starving.... it's quite dramatic. Head on fridge, arms down, crying in disgust at how slowly her parental figure reacts to her food deprivation.)
I must say, the child is quiet the little genius and incredibly cute as well.
We are currently working on potty training. Quite the task, I must say. However, yesterday marks the first official poop in the potty (I believe it was an accident and just pure perfect timing on my part.)

...but, she totally gets that things go in the potty...
and, she also puts her dolls and stuffed animals on it while nodding and clapping.... so, that's a start I would say :)
She is seriously the sweetest little girl. She loves to come up and hug our legs and kiss us. Occasionally, while I'm at the desk studying she'll run over to kiss my leg and go back to what she was doing. In the morning when she wakes up in our bed, she will whisper to us and kiss us until we 'wake up.'
